London: Activists from the Free Balochistan Movement staged a protest outside 10 Downing Street in London on Wednesday, marking 28 May — the anniversary of Pakistan’s 1998 nuclear tests in Balochistan — as a “Black Day”.
The demonstrators accused Pakistan of carrying out the nuclear tests in what they described as “occupied Balochistan” and raised slogans demanding freedom for the Baloch people. Protesters carried banners and placards calling for international attention to alleged human rights violations in the region.
The gathering also saw participation from Kurdish activists, who held a parallel demonstration demanding a free Kurdistan and freedom for jailed Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan. Members associated with the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) also expressed solidarity during the protest.
Activists from the different groups said they stood united against oppression and supported the right to self-determination for ethnic communities facing political conflict in their respective regions.
