India will host the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on 14–15 May, reinforcing its growing stature in global diplomacy. The high-level gathering will be chaired by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and will bring together representatives from BRICS member nations as well as partner countries to deliberate on major international and regional developments.
According to Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, all participating delegations are also expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the course of the summit.
As the current chair of the BRICS grouping, India has adopted the theme “Strength, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainable Development” for this year’s presidency. The agenda is expected to focus on enhancing strategic coordination among member states, deepening economic and diplomatic cooperation, and promoting sustainable global development.
Discussions during the meeting will include pressing geopolitical challenges, reforms of international institutions, and measures aimed at strengthening the multilateral global order.
The summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that several foreign ministers have already begun arriving in the capital. Russia has also officially announced that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will attend the meeting.
The expanded BRICS bloc now comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, along with new members including Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The ministerial meeting is being viewed as a significant diplomatic opportunity for India to further consolidate its influence and leadership role on the global stage.
