New Delhi: The Delhi Government will soon establish state-of-the-art laboratories across four Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in a major push to modernise skill development, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Thursday.
The initiative aims to align vocational training with evolving industry standards, focusing on advanced domains such as power electronics, electric vehicles (EVs), automotive systems and modern welding technologies. Existing labs will also be upgraded to enhance technical proficiency and improve employment prospects for trainees.
A dedicated Power Electronics Lab at ITI Jahangirpuri will offer hands-on training in industrial automation, renewable energy systems and electrical control technologies. Equipped with advanced tools including PLC kits, VFD trainers and solar PV systems, the facility is expected to train around 480 students and emerge as a centre of excellence in power engineering.
At ITI Jail Road (Hari Nagar), the welding lab will undergo a comprehensive upgrade with modern equipment such as MIG/TIG welding machines, plasma cutting tools and simulation-based training systems. The revamped facility will cater to nearly 200 trainees, equipping them with precision skills and real-world industrial exposure.
Meanwhile, ITI Arab Ki Sarai (Nizamuddin) will introduce cutting-edge Virtual Reality (VR) simulators for training in driving, welding and painting. Advanced modules on automotive systems, including anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and airbags, will also be incorporated, benefiting over 200 trainees.
Further strengthening green mobility, an Electric Vehicle Lab will be set up at HJB ITI, Mayur Vihar. The lab will focus on battery management systems, EV charging infrastructure and electric motor technologies, enabling around 184 trainees to gain practical expertise in next-generation automotive solutions.
The Chief Minister said the initiative would create a skilled, industry-ready workforce by providing exposure to real-world practices. She added that the move supports the broader vision of building a technologically empowered youth and enhancing opportunities for both employment and self-employment.
Delhi’s ITI network, known for its strong industry linkages and practical training environment, is expected to gain significantly from this modernisation drive, reinforcing its role in shaping future-ready skilled professionals.
