US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will be in Delhi today for the second meeting of the initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET) scheduled for June 17 and 18. He along with other top US officials will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will be in India today, in what marks the first visit of a senior American official after Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government returned for a third term. Sullivan will be in Delhi for the second meeting of the initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET).

The iCET is a collaboration by the US and India to boost cooperation in the fields of technology.

Sullivan was scheduled to visit India earlier this year in February but had to reschedule due to other commitments in the US. The annual iCET meeting was rescheduled for June 17 and 18.

The US National Security Adviser along with Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell, and other top officials, will meet PM Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, news agency ANI reported.

Sulliavan is also scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval. The meeting is expected to be followed by a joint statement highlighting the progress made by the two nations and the significance of iCET mechanisms for the US and India. The two senior officials are also likely to discuss the situation in West Asia during their bilateral talks.

On Sunday, at Burgenstock, Switzerland, on the sidelines of the Ukraine Peace Summit, Jake Sullivan informed that he would be travelling directly from the European nation for the iCET.

Earlier this month, Sullivan’s visit to India was discussed during the call made by US President Joe Biden to PM Modi to congratulate him for his electoral win in the general elections. Both leaders stressed their commitment to deepen the US-India Comprehensive and Global Strategic Partnership and to advance their “shared vision of a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific region”, a White House statement said
