India’s Capital Hits Record 50.5 Celsius In Fierce Heat Wave

On May 29, 2024, India’s capital city, Delhi, witnessed an unprecedented spike in temperatures, hitting an all-time high maximum temperature of 50.5 degrees Celsius. The scorching heatwave has engulfed not only Delhi but also parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, west Uttar Pradesh, and west Madhya Pradesh.

The Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert in many areas as the heatwave is expected to intensify in the coming days, with temperatures soaring above 50 degrees Celsius in some cities. Mungeshpur, Najafgarh, and Narela reported temperatures close to 50 degrees Celsius, while Pitampura, Pusa, and Jafarpur recorded temperatures above 48 degrees Celsius. Safdarjung, Palam, CHO, Ridge, and Ayanagar also experienced extreme heat, with temperatures ranging between 45 and 48 degrees Celsius. The heatwave is forecasted to persist until May 31, prompting authorities to urge residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe during this intense period of extreme weather.
